John Pring
John Pring is a disabled journalist who has been reporting on disability issues for nearly 25 years. He launched the Disability News Service (DNS) in April 2009 to address the absence of in-depth reporting throughout all media on issues that affect the lives of disabled people.
The DNS focuses on issues such as discrimination, equality, independent living, benefits, poverty, activism and campaigning, and human rights, but also covers employment, transport, education, housing, crime, and arts, culture and sport.
Nearly all of the news stories are researched and written by John and are sent to subscribers every Thursday lunchtime. They are uploaded onto the DNS later on the same day.
Funding for DNS comes from subscribers, disabled people and their allies, and advertisers. DNS rigorously maintains its editorial independence.
John has recently published The Department, a meticulously researched book that examines the UK Department of Work and Pensions and its shockingly detrimental effect on the lives of many benefit claimants, including Disabled people.
