Ellen Clifford
Ellen Clifford is a prominent UK disability activist who has worked within the disability sector for over twenty years. She currently serves on the National Steering Group for Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC). She has been instrumental in raising awareness about the challenges faced by disabled people. She is particularly known for her work with DPAC, a grassroots organisation that campaigns against austerity measures that disproportionately affect disabled people.
Clifford has been vocal about the negative impact of welfare reforms and benefit cuts on disabled individuals. She has authored a book titled “The War on Disabled People: Capitalism, Welfare and the Making of a Human Catastrophe,” which delves into the systemic issues related to benefits and employment faced by disabled people in the UK.
Through her activism and writing, Clifford has contributed to highlighting the discrimination and injustices faced by disabled people and advocating for their rights and inclusion. In 2024 she successfully forced a judicial review of efforts by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to deny disabled claimants access to higher level benefits.
